Rothwell Bible Readathon

The Rothwell Bible Readathon will take place on 23-25 June at Rothwell Methodist Church.

As many people as possible, young and old, are invited to join in reading the Bible, out loud, non-stop. If any individual or group would like to participate, contact:
Chrissie Brown
0788 447 2313
0113 282 2291 extn 10 / 214
or email chrissiewellspring6@gmail.com
for more details and to book a reading slot (15 minutes). About 300 people are needed to get through the whole Bible, so please pass the word on!

Why should you get involved?
1 To be part of a unique once-off community experience of reading a classic book aloud in a large public building.
2 To take the opportunity to look closely at some Bible stories covered by the chapter readings chosen.
3. To look at the literature styles and history of the Bible.

What is a Bible Readathon?
A Bible readathon is a marathon read of the whole Bible – out loud – non-stop – cover to cover – and it will be happening right here in Rothwell this June.

How is it done?
The Bible = 2 testaments = 66 books = 1,193 chapters = 31,111 verses = approx 100 verses per reader = 300 slots of 15 minutes = 75 hours! That means we will be reading continuously through 3 nights and 3 days, so we'll need about 300 readers, young and old, school children, pensioners, everyone doing their bit to achieve that goal, on average reading 100 verses each (or per group responsively).

Why are you doing it?
This year churches are commemorating the 400th anniversary of King James I's 1611 Authorised Version, the first officially sanctioned translation of the Bible into English. We hope to also take this opportunity to encourage the readers to be sponsored per Bible verse, so that funds can be raised to subsidise Bibles abroad.

When and where is it happening?
From Wednesday evening, 22nd June through to Sunday morning, 26th June 2011 at
Rothwell Methodist Church, Butcher Lane, Rothwell, LS26 0DB. The project is being hosted by Rothwell Methodist Church www.rothwellmethodistchurch.shutterfly.com
and assisted by Rothwell & District Churches Together www.rothwellchurches.org.uk.
