issue 35, 2010-11, 24th June

Dear Parent/Carer,

We have had another incredible week in school this week that included a visit to Key Stage One by Hedgehugs, with their Hedgehogs. Learning is always exciting and fun at Robin Hood.

Teacher Strike
Members of the NUT and ATL have voted for a national strike in response to the Government’s proposed changes to pension entitlements. The industrial action will be for one day and will take place on Thursday, 30th June. School will be open as normal to all classes on the 30th.

Appointments News
I am delighted to share the fantastic news that Mrs Dale has been appointed as our new Deputy Headteacher from September and at the same time Miss Hinton will take up her new position as Assistant Headteacher. Both Mrs Dale and Miss Hinton are exceptional teachers, communicators and leaders. As an institution, we continue our strong tradition of developing our own exceptional talent.

Community Governor
We welcome Sara Jackson, Centre Manager at Lofthouse Children’s Centre, to our Governing Body. Sara joins as a Community Governor. Our Governing Body consists of twelve people… made up of representatives from the staff, the community, parents and the LA.

Mrs Mistry
I am very pleased also to share the news that Mrs Mistry will continue to work with us next year after joining us at Easter. Mrs Holland will continue to provide very valuable support to Mrs Smith in the School Office.

Art at the Heart of the Community
Artwork from Robin Hood is now gracing the walls of the Civic Hall, Leeds, thanks to our Chair of Governors, Councillor Lisa Mulherin. We are keen to put our children’s artworks at the heart of our community…. local community spaces, businesses, Lofthouse Children’s Centre, Health Centres, etc… If you are connected with any local community space, or could suggest a space that artworks from Robin Hood could be displayed, please talk to those in charge for us or contact me with your suggestion. The quality of artworks produced by pupils at the school is so remarkable it deserves the widest possible audience.

PTA Events
There will be a meeting for parents of Year 6 pupils at The Gardeners Arms on Friday 29th June to discuss ideas and arrangements for the Leavers Disco, which takes place on Friday 15th July. Please be aware that tonight’s Magic Show has been cancelled due to a lack of support. To be effective, our PTA needs your support.

Parent Questionnaire Feedback
Feedback from the Parent Questionnaires that were issued prior to our ofsted inspection were discussed at the Governing Body meeting this week. The results of the questionnaire will shortly be posted onto our blog. Both the Governors and I felt that the feedback we received was very valuable and gives us a chance to build a dialogue with parents. Governors have initiated a new Parents Forum that will invite parents to share their views with members of the Governing Body from September.

Electronic Newsletter
In order to make cost savings, our newsletters will be distributed in electronic form from September. We will maintain the newsletter blog and will also send those parents who have returned an email address the newsletter as an email attachment. We are exploring all of our options for paperless communication… Please ensure that you have returned your email address and mobile number. The newsletter is the best way of keeping you informed of everything that is going on at the school. Lots of key information is sent via this method… so please do ‘sign up’. Any families who are unable to receive electronic communications… please let us know.

Meet Your New Teacher
Our Meet Your New Teacher Day takes place on Tuesday 5th July. On the day, children will spend a full day with their new teacher. There are meetings for parents scheduled for straight after school on the 5th in their child’s new classroom from September. Children will receive a letter on Friday 1st July that will detail their new class and teacher.

Celebration Friday
Friday 1st July is the last Celebration Friday event of the school year. This is a Whole School event. Please do visit your child’s class, have a look at their learning and at the magnificent artworks around school, particularly on our Mall – which now features spacemen floating in zero gravity.

Have a super weekend,
Mr Wilson
