Dear Parent/Carer,

Welcome to the final newsletter of the school year.

Thank you
I would like to say an enormous thank you on behalf of all staff at the school to those parents, grandparents and children who have sent gifts, letters, cards and messages of thanks to our staff. As we know in school, the power of a positive message should never be underestimated. Our staff feel very valued and very fortunate to be serving a fantastic community and amazing children.

My thanks to our pupils, parents/carers, community, staff and Governors for another outstanding year at Robin Hood. To paraphrase an old adage, ‘It takes a whole community to educate a child.’

Merit Award Winners
I was delighted to travel to Toys ‘R’ Us last Wednesday for our Annual Merit Award Prizes shopping spree. Maddie Otley in Reception, Eleanor Barrett in Year 2, Nathan Haley in Year 3 and Tori Caddick-Devanney in Year 6 were the children who earned the most merits in their particular phase of school during the year. Our winners each spent their full £30.00 Prize Fund on some brilliant toys – which will be presented to them at the Leavers Assembly on Friday.

Next School Year
We begin the next school year with Training Days on Monday 5th and Tuesday 6th September. We welcome pupils back to their new year in school on Wednesday 7th September.

Summer at Friendly Faces
Friendly Faces is open through the Summer Holiday until 5th August. There is then a three week closure before it re-opens for business on Monday 29th August, the week before the new school year begins. Charges remain very competitive at £25.00 for the full day or £12.50 for a half day. Please contact Louise Parker for more information or to book, either at Friendly Faces or on 07810071148.

Electronic newsletter
The newsletter will be produced in electronic form only next year. In order to ensure that you are up to date with information, dates, etc, please follow the newsletter blog or give your email address to Mrs Smith in order that we can mail the newsletter to you direct. Please do let us know if you do not have access to a computer to receive the e-newsletter.

Summer Works
The hard work, of course, is just beginning for some. Mr Reynolds looks upon the school year as the quiet period before the real work begins. This summer we are adding Air Conditioning to the remaining classrooms in the main school building that have thus far not benefitted from it. We are having full refits in three classrooms, toilet refurbishments, stockroom upgrades, improvements to lighting and decoration throughout the school and important upgrades to our outdoor areas… One of which began on Saturday. Apologies for any inconvenience that this has caused today. This ongoing commitment to investment in the building and grounds keeps our school the outstanding environment for learning that it is.

Leavers Assembly
Our Leavers Assembly is a very important tradition at Robin Hood, one that anyone who has seen a Leavers Assembly remembers fondly. Our Year 6 pupils have once again done us proud and have been an enormous credit to themselves, their school and their community. We wish each and every one of them the very best of success for their future.

I received feedback from a parent this week questioning why the Leavers Assembly and all school Assemblies involve the whole school and are open to all of our community. The community support for our children at our assemblies is one of the unique, distinctive and magical features of Robin Hood. It is your support that makes these events special and memorable for our children. As a school, we very much welcome and value the support of parents, grandparents, siblings, aunties, uncles, childminders and all. I am very grateful for your support at our Assemblies this year and hope that it is a continuing feature of the school experience for children at Robin Hood for many years to come.

Summer Learning
It is really important that your child continues with a little reading during the summer. Reading underpins all learning and it’s great to return in September confident and bursting with the excitement of showing your new teacher just what you’ve improved on during the weeks away. Help us to help your child move quickly into a new book band next year. Little and fairly often is the best approach. I Am Learning, accessed via our website, is another great learning resource that your child can be using.

I would like to set a special Summer Holiday challenge for all children: to make a movie of their Summer Holiday. Next year, we will be launching The Robins – like The Oscars, only bigger – with prizes for the best films that our pupils make throughout the year. There will be a special award at The Robins for Best Movie of the Summer, so get filming… all films must be of 2 minutes duration or less.

Have a fantastic summer,
Mr Wilson
