issue 36, 2010-11, 1st July

Dear Parent/Carer,

Key Dates
Your child has received a letter today detailing their new class for next year. Our Meet Your New Teacher Day takes place on Tuesday 5th July. On the day, children will spend a full day with their new teacher (except our new Nursery starters, who will spend until the end of lunchtime in their new Reception class). There are meetings for parents scheduled for straight after school on the 5th in their child’s new classroom from September.

The Year 6 Transition Day to Rodillian also takes place on Tuesday 5th July. Families should make arrangements for their child to go direct to Rodillian on the morning and be collected from Rodillian at the end of the school day. Pupils transferring to Rodillian in September should not come to Robin Hood that day. All Year 6 pupils who are not transferring to Rodillian should come to school as normal.

Please remember that we have a Training Day on Friday 8th July. Our Arts Review Evening takes place on Thursday 7th July, 6.00pm – 7.00pm. We hope that you are able to attend our festival of the Arts and celebration of our children’s talents, organised by Miss Thackeray and Mrs Comstive.

Appointment News
I am delighted to share with you that Miss Thackeray has been appointed to the post of Year 34 Team Leader from September. Miss Thackeray brings her dynamism and energy to what is a fabulous new Leadership Team at Robin Hood, now consisting of:
Mrs Dale (Deputy Headteacher / Year 5 & 6 Team Leader), Miss Hinton (Assistant Headteacher / Year 1 & 2 Team Leader), Miss Lambert (Foundation Stage Team Leader), Miss Thackeray (Year 3 & 4 Team Leader), Miss Darroch (ICT & E-Learning Leader) and myself. We have much to look forward to in the next school year.

Friendly Faces
Places at Friendly Faces from September ‘11 are going very quickly. We have only four spaces available for Before School on a Monday, one on a Thursday and two on a Friday. After School, we have two spaces available on both Monday and Tuesday and three on a Friday. To make sure of a place, book soon. Contact Louise Parker on 07921216937

After a four year price freeze, fees at Friendly Faces fees will rise slightly in 2011-12. The new prices are: £4.50 Before School and £9.00 After School. One-off places are available if you are experiencing a short-term childcare problem. Again, contact Louise for details.

Playground Safety
In the interests of safety in the playground, all children who come to school on a bike or scooter must take their bike/scooter directly to the storage area behind school and secure it there. Children should not ride their bike/scooter on the playground as there are clear safety risks to both themselves and to other playground users. For the same reason, children are asked not to bring heavy full-sized footballs to school on a morning.

Art at the Heart of the Community
If you are connected with any local community space, or could suggest a space that artworks from Robin Hood could be displayed, please talk to those in charge for us or contact me with your suggestion.

Positive Feedback
I received a very lovely letter from a family who recently left our school, excerpts include… ‘I can heartily say that my children have had a great start because of the wonderful teachers at Robin Hood… Mrs Beckwith, Mrs Friar and Mrs Comstive have been constant roles models… the brilliant Mrs Smith who has always been very friendly and supportive. I will especially miss her.’ It is great to hear positive feedback from families. My grateful thanks to all staff named above.

Parent Questionnaire Feedback
Feedback from the Parent Questionnaires is now live for parents to view on our newsletter blog. Your feedback helps us to develop and improve our provision.

Electronic Newsletter
Our newsletter will be distributed in electronic form from September. Please ensure that you have returned your contact details order to receive our electronic communications. Any families who are unable to receive electronic communications… please let us know.

PTA
My thanks to our PTA for their £4,500 contribution to School Funds. This money has been raised from your efforts and generosity and will fund the continuation of our Nature Trail into the Main School playground. This area will feature the exciting new addition of a willow tunnel that will further enhance our children’s play experience. Our PTA is dependent upon your help.

Outstanding payments and orders
Could you please ensure that outstanding photograph orders to be handed in by Tuesday 5th July. Dinner Money needs to be paid in full by Monday 18th July, please.

Un-named Clothing
Un-named clothing inevitably goes missing at this time of year. All named clothing is quickly returned to its rightful owner. Please ensure that all clothing items are clearly labelled with your child’s name.

Stock Sale
We will be selling the remaining items of school uniform and Book Bag stock that we hold for 50p per item at the end of the school day every Friday until the end of term. Any unsold items will then be disposed of.

Have a brilliant weekend.
Mr Wilson
