Dear Parent/Carer,
Last week we enjoyed our Arts Review Evening on Thursday – after going to press with last week’s newsletter. It was a truly fabulous evening. My thanks to all of the many members of our community who attended – we very literally had standing room only in the Hall – and who made it the fabulous occasion that it was for the children. The performances caused me to reflect upon what a privilege it is to work every day with such a talented group of people, children and staff. My thanks to Miss Thackeray, Miss Bradshaw and Mrs Comstive for their efforts with the children and to all staff who contributed to the show’s success. There were an incredible fifteen members of the school staff present for the evening performance – which says a great deal about the importance of teamwork - a key feature of life at Robin Hood.
We have thoroughly enjoyed our Sports Day and Year 6 Performances this week. My thanks to Miss Mees for her fantastic organisation of the Sports Day during which everyone was active, all of the time, and – for a first time of asking – I think it was a magnificent achievement. My thanks to Miss Darroch, Mrs Comstive and the Year 6 team for their fantastic work on the Year 6 production – another fabulous advert for the fantastic things that are going on at Robin Hood.
End of Year Reports
Your child has today brought home his/her End of Year Report. I must say that it is always a pleasure to read the reports at Robin Hood – which are so very positive and child-centred. Well done to everyone for an incredible year.
School Captains
Congratulations to Chloe Jackson and Joe Broadhead who have been voted by their peers as our new School Captains. Congratulations also to Daniel Brennan and Jessica Siddons, our new Vice Captains. Our Captains and Vice Captains play very important roles in school and I look forward to working with them all next year. My thanks to Ellie and Elias, Charlie and Kirsty, this year’s Captains and Vice Captains.
Next School Year
We begin the next school year with Training Days on Monday 5th and Tuesday 6th September. We welcome pupils back to their new year in school on Wednesday 7th September.
Summer at Friendly Faces
Friendly Faces is open through the Summer Holiday until 5th August. There is then a three week closure before it re-opens for business on Monday 29th August, the week before the new school year begins. Friendly Faces is also open for the Training Days Monday 5th and Tuesday 6th September. Charges for the Summer and the Training Days remain very competitive at £25.00 for the full day or £12.50 for a half day. Please contact Louise Parker for more information or to book, either at Friendly Faces or on 07810071148.
Electronic newsletter
The newsletter will be produced in electronic form only next year. In order to ensure that you are up to date with key information, please ensure that we have your email address – or follow the
weekly newsletter blog.
Final Week
Next week is the final full week in school. I will be taking our Merit Prize Winners to Toys ‘R’ Us on Wednesday to claim their prizes for being the person with the most Merits in their phase of school. Also on Wednesday, our Year 6 pupils will be enjoying their traditional Fish and Chip Lunch with staff… so no packed lunches needed that day. On Thursday, we will have Bouncy Castles on the field and classroom activities to celebrate our Golden Day and on Friday we have Talent Show in the morning and our Poetry Final in the Hall at 2.30pm. Parents, carers, family and community are welcomed to join us for the Poetry Final. The PTA Year 6 Leavers Disco takes place in the Hall 6.30pm – 8.00pm on Friday evening.
We come in for the final school day on Monday 25th July. This is the last official day of the school year and we expect everyone in on that day. Our final assembly of the year, the Leavers Assembly, will begin at 2.00pm. This is, of course, a very popular assembly. It is recommended that you arrive early in order to ensure that you are able to get into the Hall.
Book Amnesty
Please look around carefully at home for any books that belong to the school – they will have a Robin Hood stamp and sticker on them. We invest very heavily in books every year and buy titles that children love to read. These books need to be available to all children – so please do return any ‘extras’ that are currently residing in your home.
Summer Learning
It is really important that your child continues with his/her learning during the summer break. Continuing to read regularly is particularly important as fluent reading underpins many aspects of learning…. Help us to help your child make a fantastic start to the new school year by doing just a little and fairly often. Our children have access, of course, to online materials such as I Am Learning which is a fun and motivating method of learning. We are told by I Am Learning that Robin Hood pupils are among the highest out of school hours users of the product in the country… so that’s a very successful way that we are using to support Home Learning.
Have a great weekend,
Mr Wilson
