Reflections on the year 2010-11

It is no understatement to say that it has been an incredible year in school.

In 2010-11 the school was awarded an outstanding grade by ofsted that recognised the very hard work done over many years and the outstanding capacity at the school for future development.

In 2010-11 we welcomed Miss Lambert, Mr Thurlow, Mrs Charlesworth and Mrs Moore to the school. We helped Mrs Moore and Mrs Charlesworth to become Newly Qualified Teachers and we said goodbye to Mrs Bailey and Mr Simpson - long-serving colleagues at Robin Hood who used their time with us to further their own professional development and their careers. We also said goodbye in July, at the end of one year with us, to Mr Thurlow who we wish well on his own continuing journey in education.

In 2010-11 we welcomed Stephanie Finlay, Michael Devanney, Shaun Turner, Sara Jackson and Fiona Oxley to our Governing Body and said farewell at the end of the year to Jacqui Woodhouse and Shaun Turner.

In 2010-11 Miss Gascoigne visited Senegal. Miss Thackeray and Miss Hinton led trips to Italy, Austria and Norway and we welcomed visitors from Australia into school. Our international links, funded by the European Union and British Council, continued to grow and to benefit our pupil's knowledge and understanding of the world around them.

In 2010-11 the School Governors took over responsibility for the management of the on-site Before and After School Childcare, which was re-named Friendly Faces - a name chosen by the children who attended the setting.

In 2010-11 our staff once again led very successful residential visits for our Year 4 and Year 6 pupils.

We celebrated our children's achievements with brilliant weekly Celebration Assemblies, Half Termly Celebration Fridays, Performance Evenings and an Arts Review Evening.

In 2010-11 we launched our 'Art in the Community' initiative that saw works of art created by pupils at Robin Hood exhibited in Community Spaces throughout the city, including Leeds Civic Hall and Park Lane Colleges.

In 2010-11 Mrs Dale became our new Deputy Headteacher and Miss Hinton became our new Assistant Headteacher.

With exceptional staff, exceptional pupils, an exceptional community and exceptional aspirations, we can look forward to an exceptional school year 2011-12.

Mr Wilson
